Our New Normal

The City of Paynesville’s number one concern is the health and safety of our customers and employees! We want to thank you for your patience with us as we continue to navigate through COVID-19 in Motor Vehicle, DNR, Driver’s License and all City business.

We know that our lines and wait times are longer than what everyone is used to, but we appreciate everyone complying with the Governor’s Orders including social distancing by entering through our new entrance on the northwest side of the building.

Appointments are not necessary, you can just walk in, and masks are not required. Our drop box/mailing are still options (for some types of business) for anyone not comfortable visiting us in person. Plan to spend a full hour here as we work through our longer lines, increase in customer traffic and maintaining social distancing for customers and staff.

We are doing our best to make your wait as short and as safe as possible. Many applications and forms can be found on the City’s website and can be filled out before you arrive at City Hall.  In addition, the most common forms are on the table by our new entrance for you to fill out before or while you wait in line.

At this time, there is NO testing at the Paynesville location until further notice, this includes written/knowledge tests of any kind and road/behind the wheel tests. Written tests can be taken at the St. Cloud Exam Office (3333 W Division St, St Cloud) and the Willmar Exam Office (1601 US-12, Willmar). You still need to make an appointment for any road tests; these can be made on line at dvs.dps.mn.gov. Those applying for a Farm Work Permit must make an appointment by calling St. Cloud or Willmar or in person at those same locations. Once you or your child has passed either a written or road test, you can bring the test and other necessary documents to our office and we can finish the process for a driver’s license, provisional, or instructional permit here.

We are happy to be open and serving the public again with the new safety measures in place. Thank you for your patronage, cooperation and patience.
